Panel #3 Measuring AI’s Environmental Impact: Challenges, Solutions and the Road Ahead
Maximilian Kallenbach Constant Riolo Lucy Schulze Mai Do

Companies adopting AI struggle to quantify its environmental impact and anticipate its effect on their carbon footprint and decarbonisation targets. Existing references are largely based on lab benchmarks rather than real-world deployments, overlooking the actual energy, hardware and infrastructure footprint of AI at scale. Ahead of the public release of the results at the Geneva AI Summit 2027, three participants in a Resilio study aimed at this gap will discuss the challenges they face as AI users, providers and institutional facilitators, and share their expectations on measuring AI’s environmental impact.
